Kristjan Teder was an Estonian painter, a master of landscape and still life working within the tradition of colourist painting. He created sunny, life-affirming canvases in which the joy of colour takes centre stage.
His floral still lifes and fruit compositions are distinguished by a generous palette and decorative panache, while his landscapes radiate warmth and an unfeigned love of nature.
Teder was known among his colleagues as the “painter of sunlight” — he always sought and found light even in the most everyday scenes. Even on overcast Baltic days, his canvases seem to glow from within, as though he possessed a secret reserve of sunshine that he could summon at will.
