FAMOUS ARTISTRūdolfs Pinnis

Rūdolfs Pinnis was a long-lived Latvian artist.

Pinnis was a master of Latvian landscape and cityscape. His works display clarity of composition, remarkable color, and a strong sense of atmosphere. Pinnis also created portraits and genre scenes, and worked in various graphic mediums — watercolor, lithography, pencil drawings. His illustrations of Latvian literature share the same attention to detail and lyrical intonation as his paintings.

Pinnis lived to age 90 and continued to work until old age. He used to say, “Painting is the best cure for old age,” and even at 85, he went outdoors to paint nearly every day.
